It had been rumoured for some time now but Germany’s heart throb Philipp Boy has announced his retirement from elite gymnastics. He announced his decision yesterday to media at the Stuttgart World Cup and also on his official website. Boy has not been himself since falling from the high bar at last years Stuttgart World Cup and offered a poor performance at this years European Championships.

ich weiß, viele werden jetzt traurig oder enttäuscht sein, aber ich habe heute meinen Rücktritt vom Leistungssport im Rahmen des DTB Pokals öffentlich bekannt gegeben.
Diese Entscheidung fiel mir nicht wirklich leicht, vor allem weil das Turnen bisher mein Leben war!
Es sind aber in diesem Jahr viele Gründe entstanden, die dagegen sprechen, meine Karriere weiterzuführen und deswegen habe ich mich so entschieden.
Ich werde aber trotzdem diesem Sport in allen Bereichen verbunden bleiben und versuche das Turnen auf einer anderen Ebene voranzutreiben.
Ich kann euch gar nicht genug danken für die vielen, vielen wunderschönen Nachrichten von euch. Sie haben mich sehr berührt!
Ich danke euch auch für die super Unterstützung und die unvergesslichen Momente während der letzten Jahren!!!!!!
Ihr könnt euch gar nicht vorstellen, wie sehr man daraus Kraft tanken kann!
Ich kann definitiv auf eine bewegende Karriere zurückschauen, mit allem was dazu gehört!
Und weiß was es heißt, überragende Fans zu haben!

I know, many of you will be sad and disappointed about this message: Today I announced my retirement of competitive sports.
This was no easy decision! Because gymnastics was my passion!
But during this year too many reasons argue against continuing my career.
I will ever be connected with this sports and I will try to push gymnastics on another way.
I can’t thank you enough for your numerous and lovely messages. They have touched me. I am so thankful for supporting me and the wonderful moments during the last years.You can’t imagine how much power it was for me!
I can definitely look back on an awesome career.
And I know what does it mean to have great Fans!

I will be sorry to see Boy go. He was always a delight to watch, a fantastic sportsman and not tough on the eye either!
